AI to DJ Radio Stations? Seriously?

Chat GPT is Everywhere in the News… Now on Radio, Too?

The same technology behind ChatGPT is now being merged into a system that automates radio DJing. That’s what we need. Let’s replace more humans with bots. Great idea.

Futuri (provider of AI-based audience engagement and sales intelligence software) has now revealed RadioGPT, a system that uses GPT-3 and other technology to generate and sell specific content for radio stations.

Futuri explains: “RadioGPT uses TopicPulse technology, which scans Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and 250k+ other sources of news and information, to identify which topics are trending in a local market. Then, using GPT-3 technology, RadioGPT creates a script for on-air use.”

Check this out. The AI produced script can be read by a station’s own DJs, or have AI voices trained to sound just like those station DJs, or completely AI-generated voices, and the stations have the choice of designing radio shows with up to three totally virtual DJs.

RadioGPT’s AI DJs can talk about the weather and local traffic, or scan a station’s music playlist and mention upcoming songs. But while ChatGPT language models may produce human-sounding text, it is not necessarily factual text. OpenAI has already admitted to users of ChatGPT that they should not assume that its text is accurate or factual.

In a recent article entitled “Humanity Will Turn AI for Bad Eventually,” written by Rogier Fentener van Vlissingen, he writes, “Humanity has consistently turned all tools for bad eventually, and so it will with AI – we’re already doing it. But the worst disservice to ourselves is to objectify AI and to give it more credibility than is warranted. Used correctly, AI is a wonderful tool, even if it is also capable of terrible abuse. It is merely another human foible to ascribe all kinds of magical properties to things, based on nothing.”

What is currently unclear is how Futuri plans to guarantee that its virtual DJs won’t get on the air and spread misinformation, that is, complete BS. For that reason, stations shouldn’t install RadioGPT until Futuri can promise that their phony baloney AI DJs can function without completely fabricating and spreading false information.

Real or robotic, no stations can thrive without advertising. Radio is still your best choice for advertising. Call us for rates and details!
